After a long day at work, it's important to take some time to unwind and take care of yourself. Self-care is all about taking care of your mind and body, and it's something that should never be skipped, ever! In this blog, I'll share a simple self-care routine that I do after work that doesn't take a lot of time, but totally relaxes me.
Step 1: Change Your Clothes
I love putting on clothes for lounging or pajamas because it tells my mind that it's time to relax. Changing my clothes also helps me feel more relaxed and comfortable, which is key for winding down after a long day.
Step 2: Make Yourself a Drink
The next step in my after-work self-care routine is to make myself a drink. I usually will make a cup of tea, a glass of wine, or even just a glass of water with lemon. I’ll choose something that I would enjoy and help me to relax. Drinking water with lemon helps my digestion. And when I drink tea, it has calming properties that helps reduce my stress. Sometimes, I’ll also indulge in a glass of wine, which is known to be great for the heart as it's rich in antioxidants that can help decrease the risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and other heart-related problems.
Step 3: Practice Mindfulness
The third step in my after-work self-care routine is practicing mindfulness. For me, mindfulness is all about being present in the moment and focusing on my thoughts and feelings. I do this through meditation, deep breathing exercises, or even just taking a few minutes to sit quiet and focus on my breathing. Mindfulness helps me to reduce stress, which improves my mood, and increases my focus. It's a great way for me to center myself and let go of any worries from my day.
Step 4: Treat Yourself
The fourth step in my after-work self-care routine is treating myself. This step is important as it allows me to do something that brings me joy and happiness after a long day. I usually will read a book, watch my favorite TV show, or taking a bath. Whatever I choose, I make sure it's something that brings me joy and help me relax. It's a great way for me to recharge my batteries and take care of my mental health.
Building Onto Your After-Work Self-Care Routine
I just didn’t stop there. I began building onto my after-work self-care routine, by adding in a 15 minute stretch or by going for a walk outside. You can do this too! You can try a new hobby or activity that you've been interested in. The possibilities are endless. Just take your time to figure out what calms you and brings you joy.
As I’m completing my routine, I begin to speak affirmations. I tell myself that I’m human and I’m doing a good job. I also reaffirm that I deserve time to relax and unwind. I deserve to take care of myself, to feel happy and healthy.
In conclusion, taking care of yourself after a hard day at work is essential for your well-being. By following this simple self-care routine, you can help reduce stress, improve your mood, and feel more relaxed and refreshed just like I do. Remember, self-care is never selfish, and it's something that you should prioritize in your daily routine.
