Hi Beauties!
I have been having a great time discussing skincare products with you. As I write these blogs, I have these aha moments. Its amazing that in creating and sharing these products with you that I am realizing so many things about my skincare.
For instance, I am learning my skincare needs at night for a better morning. This is dependent on how my skin looks when I wake up. Sometimes my skin is dry in the morning, so I will switch up my routine in the in evening so that my skin isn’t dry in the morning.
Maybe my skin is really oily in the morning. What can I do at night that will prevent or lessen the oil overnight and so on. I used to think that this was so complicated because I did not want to adjust to my skincare needs. I just wanted a one size fits all. Well, that’s not going to happen. So I’ve learned to embrace me, all of me. Even though I may fuss, if I don’t give myself my all, what will be the result?
Ok, let me get off my soap box😂
Today, I am here to discuss face moisturizers and why you should be using it daily.
What is a face moisturizer and why is it beneficial to you?
Moisturizers prevent and treat dry skin. They can also protect sensitive skin, improve skin texture and mask imperfections.
Moisturizers hold water in the outer layer of skin. Most moisturizers are water-based lotions, creams, gels and serums. They contain ingredients that draw water into the skin (humectants) — such as glycerin, lactic acid and emollients that smooth the skin as sunflower oil and jojoba oil.
The moisturizers that are best for you depend on many factors, including your skin type, your age and whether you have specific conditions, such as acne. Here are a list of skin types to help you to understand which type of moisturizer helps your skin.
- Normal skin. Normal skin is neither too dry nor too oily. To maintain this natural moisture balance, use a water-based moisturizer that has a light, nongreasy feel. These moisturizers often contain lightweight oils or silicone-derived ingredients, such as cyclomethicone.
-
Dry skin. Dry skin tends to be flaky, itchy or rough. To restore moisture to dry skin, choose a heavier, oil-based moisturizer that contains ingredients that help retain water. If you have tried moisturizers but still feel dry — especially on the lower legs, feet, arms and hands — look for one that has lactic acid or lactic acid and urea in it.
For very dry and cracked skin, look for ointments with petroleum jelly (Vaseline, Aquaphor). They have more staying power than lotions do and are more effective at reducing water loss from the skin. If this type of product is too greasy for daytime use, apply it at bedtime.
-
Oily skin. Oily skin is shiny, greasy and prone to acne and breakouts. Such skin still needs moisture, especially after using skin care products that remove oils and dry the skin. A light moisturizer can also help protect your skin after washing.
Lotions generally contain a higher percentage of water than creams do, are easier to apply and are less likely to aggravate acne-prone skin. Choose a lightweight, water-based product that's labeled oil-free or noncomedogenic, which means it won't clog pores. If you are acne-prone, avoid using products on your face that contain petroleum jelly, cocoa butter or coconut oil. If your skin is very oily, try using a sunscreen instead of a moisturizer.
- Combination skin. Combination skin has areas that are dry and oily. For example, the forehead, nose or chin might be oily, but the cheeks are dry. Try a medium-weight lotion with broad-spectrum sunscreen. Or use a light moisturizer on your face and a heavier one for your arms and legs.
- Sensitive skin. Sensitive skin is susceptible to irritation, redness, itching or rashes. Look for a moisturizer that contains soothing ingredients, such as chamomile or aloe. Choose mild products labeled as hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and for sensitive skin. Note that products labeled unscented may still irritate your skin, as they may contain masking fragrances. Also avoid products containing acids, which can irritate sensitive skin.
-
Mature skin. As you age, your skin tends to become thinner, drier, less elastic and less able to protect itself from damage. To keep your skin soft and well hydrated, choose an oil-based moisturizer that contains petroleum jelly, which helps hold in moisture. Moisturizing can make fine lines and wrinkles less visible.
To prevent flaky, scaly skin, you might choose products that also include antioxidants or alpha hydroxy acid. Moisturizers often form the basis for wrinkle creams, with added retinoids, antioxidants, peptides or other ingredients.

Now that you have a better understanding of moisturizers, let me tell you about Performance Skincare™️ Face Moisturizer and how it can benefit your skin.
Performance Skincare™️ Face Moisturizer was created for all skin types. What do I mean by this is that the moisturizer was created whether you have dry, mature, combination skin, etc. Its perfectly balance so you can use as much or little as possible depending on your skin type/needs. We’ll into that a little later, but let’s first talk about the active ingredients in this luscious moisturizer.
Pumpkin seed oil is known to brighten skin tone. It is packed with vitamin E which helps in clearing blemishes and discolouration of the skin. The fatty acids present in the oil helps in controlling excess oil production and at the same time keeps the skin elastic with its moisturizing properties. This is especially beneficial to our oily/combination skin customers.
Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, is a water-soluble vitamin that works with your skin to help visibly minimize enlarged pores, tighten lax pores, improve uneven skin tone, soften fine lines and wrinkles, diminish dullness, and strengthen a weakened surface. Niacinamide also reduces the impact of environmental damage because of its ability to improve skin’s barrier (the outermost area which is our first line of defense.
Lastly, Panthenol is the alcohol form of Vitamin B5, a.k.a pantothenic acid. Panthenol is an excellent moisturizer as it draws moisture from the air into the deeper layers of your skin up to through the superficial layers.
Moisture is the foundation of healthy skin: it plumps up skin so that fine lines and wrinkles look smaller; it softens up your skin’s texture; and it gives the complexion a dewy glow.
Now that you know about the wonderful ingredients in our moisturizer, lets discuss how you can maximize it in other ways.
Use as much or little as you need
Depending on your skin type, you can adjust the amount of moisturizer you need. Those with oily skin prefer not to use a moisturizer that contains oil but can use ours. Why, because they will only need a drop to moisturize their skin without making their skin feel or look oily.
For those will dry skin, they can use as much (which is still a little) to smooth and hydrate their skin. Our moisturizer is so moisturizing that our customers rave about how smooth and soft their skin feels as well as the beautiful glow they receive from using it.
Another tip is that if you have dry skin naturally or just dealing with dry skin for whatever reason, you can apply the moisturizer a little heavier in the evening after cleansing your skin. It acts as a night cream to keep the skin smooth and hydrated throughout the night.
To remove moisturizer in the morning, I recommend using the Performance Skincare™️ Exfoliating Face Wash on dry skin. Just add 1-2 pumps into your hands and rub together like lotion. Rub face wash into a circular motion all over your face for about 20-30 seconds. Rinse with warm water, then proceed as normal.
Now that you know all about face moisturizers and the importance of them, make sure you are using one every day. Use specific moisturizers for your skin type and/or specific condition.
