National Cleanse Your Skin Week - Daily Skin Routine (Part 2)

Hi Beauties,

In part one of our daily skin routine blog, we discussed cleansers, toners and serums. I hope you found it informative. If you missed part one, you can read it HERE. In today's blog we'll discuss part two, moisturizers, eye creams and sunscreen.

So let's get into it!

Daily Routine - Part 2

Moisturizers are emulsions of oil and water (plus other ingredients for nourishing, treatment, and preserving) that help replenish hydration, keeping moisture in skin and dryness out. Experts say that hydrating is crucial for keeping skin youthful and healthy, even if you don’t have dry skin.
Most moisturizers are water-based lotions, creams, gels and serums. They contain ingredients that draw water into the skin (humectants) — such as glycerin, lactic acid or urea — and others that smooth the skin (emollients) — such as lanolin, sunflower oil and jojoba oil.

How to use a moisturizer:
Moisturizers are to applied to the skin after applying your serum. Make sure the moisturizer is fully absorbed into your skin before you apply sunscreen.
Eye Cream
Eye creams have special moisturizers for the skin around the eyes. An eye cream is a specially formulated moisturizer effective to use near the eyes, and that won’t damage the soft tissue around the eyes or cause eye irritation. Many of these creams are made with special ingredients that help either reduce the look of wrinkles around the eyes, provide anti-aging benefits, or help to reduce darker skin tone around the eyes.

How to apply eye cream:
Eye cream is to be applied after your moisturizer. Very little is needed (dime size). Apply eye cream in the soft tissue area under your eyes by using the pads of your fingers in a tapping motion until fully absorbed. Also note, eye cream is the last step in your skincare routine except when sunscreen is needed.
Sunscreen - Sun Protection Factor (SPF)
Sunscreen is a necessity that you need to incorporate into your daily skincare routine. Not only does sunscreen help protect your complexion from cancer-causing UVA and UVB rays, but it will keep sunburns at bay (if you reapply) and protect your skin against premature aging and most importantly skin cancer.

How to use sunscreen:
Similar to lotion, apply sunscreen on your face, chin and neck. Ensure you rub it in until it is fully absorbed. Depending on the instructions on your sunscreen, it should be applied every two hours while outside.

Note, sunscreen is the last step in your skincare routine. No other product should be applied over sunscreen.

We have officially covered all the products and how they should be applied in your daily skin routine. In tomorrow's blog, we will discuss the different types of cleansers available and which skin type or issue they are for. At the end of this series we'll pull it all together so you will have a solid routine to follow.

See you in the next blog!
